Nauru is a tiny island 3000km north of Australia. It is the worlds smallest republic with a size of only 21 km². The Nauruans had the second highest per capita income in the world until recently because of their high-quality phosphate deposit. Meanwhile, the situation is somewhat
different, because the phosphate reserves were were almost exhausted in 2006, and are going to be completely used up between 2010 to 2015. It is still unclear how the people there will then earn enough money to maintain their extravagant lifestyle. Nauruans for example, love luxury cars! You
could walk around the complete island several times in one day, which would probably be good for the people with the highest diabetes and obesity rate (2008).
